Oops! This isn’t my blog!
January 9, 2008
This probably isn’t where I intended for you to come. I currently own two blogs. I have a ministry based blog called Children’s Ministry Online and a family blog called The Conley Update. Feel free to visit either of those blogs by clicking on the links.
What? You’re still reading? What? You want to know why this page even exists? Why did you end up here and why did I send you here? If you don’t really care, just go to one of the links above or shut your computer down and do something fun. Otherwise, I’m going to tell you why you are here. Why? Because I want to. Fair enough?
Over two years ago as I looked into blogging, I explored both wordpress and blogger as blogging platforms. I was in a rush as I was leaving for a trip to Dubai the next day. I needed a blogging platform that I could install on my existing site (www.kennyandsara.com). I didn’t want people leaving the site to go to a blogging site as many do. I liked wordpress much better than blogger, but it looked like wordpress was much more complicated to install on my website. In the process of evaluating blogging platforms I created an account with wordpress named “kennyconley.” Upon creating that account, it created this page at kennyconle.wordpress.com.
Now I actually have two wordpress blogs at the links above. The cool thing about wordpress is that when you are logged into your blog account, it remembers your information. So when I write a comment on another blog, it automatically fills in my information with a link back to my blog. However, I have to be careful about this. If I am commenting on someone’s ministry blog, I typically want to make sure I am logged into my childrensministry blog so that the info that is automatically filled in is my ministry blog… not my family blog. The opposite is also true. It isn’t a huge deal though as either blog actually works.
Okay, but that doesn’t explain why you are on this page, does it? No, I’m getting there. A while ago I installed a really cool plugin for both of my blogs that tracks my visitors and readers. It tells me how many people have visited each page. Google analytics is much more robust (I do use it too), but this stat plugin is quick and easy and current up to 10 minutes. However, in order to use this plugin, you have to have a global account with wordpress… which I do. It is “kennyconley.” So, if I am checking my stats, I have to log into my “kennyconley” account which logs me out of either of my other blog accounts. Then if I go surfing around and try to comment on other people’s blog posts, it will paste in the link to my kennyconley.wordpress.com blog… which is what you are reading. It’s a little annoying, so I finally decided to put something here so at least people could be redirected to the appropriate site. And for those who were asking, why on earth did I go to this site… well that I why I wrote all of this.
Yes, I know I have a problem. Yes, I know that I will never get this 15 minutes back. However, I like myself more now than I did 15 minutes ago and that’s enough for me.
Your friend,
Kenny Conley
